Educator, activist, and puppeteer.
Gloria, Cox died October 23, 2015 at age 89. Known for her zest for life and generous and playful spirit, she grew up in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and moved to Northern California to attend the Stanford Graduate School of Education. Gloria and her forester husband, Paul, shared an abiding dedication to social justice, and peace activism, and a shared love of nature and world travel. She taught in the Rio Linda District for 40 years and served as librarian. She also performed as a puppeteer, using her love of literacy to entertain children throughout the Sacramento area. Gloria played tennis at Del Norte and golf at Sierra View in Roseville. For the past two years, she enjoyed living near her family in the Bay Area.

Gloria leaves behind her daughter Ruth, son-in-law Milton Chen and Granddaughter Maggie Chen. Son Roy, husband Paul, and sister Myrtle Mulvaney preceded her in death.

Donations in Gloria’s memory may be made to Planned parenthood of Sacramento, the Sacramento Unitarian Universalist Endowment Trust, the American River Natural History Association, or Peace Puppets.
