Marcella Rae O'Connor

June 2, 1928 - November 4, 2022

O’Connor, Marcella Rae “Marcy”, 94, of Pacifica, CA was called to her Heavenly home on November 4, 2022. Born June 2, 1928, in Paso Robles, CA; She was raised along with her older sister Wilma in a loving home by her parents Walter and Alice Sykes with whom she always remained close. As a teen during World War II she and her mother often volunteered for the USO at Camp Roberts. She graduated from Paso Robles High School in 1945 and then attended San Jose State University, where she graduated with a BA degree in Marketing. She came to San Francisco in 1950 where she proudly worked for 10 years for the FBI.

She met the love of her life Gerald “Jerry” O’Connor in 1955, on his boat the Don Hasta, on a San Francisco Bay fishing trip. His Irish charm won her over and they were married in 1959. Their first home was in Daly City and in 1974 they moved to Pacifica, a town Marcy loved. They had 43 years of love and laughter until he was called home on May 2, 2002. Together they raised three daughters: Kimberly O’Connor, Karen Gilmour (John) and Kristin O’Connor. They had two grandchildren: Zachary Gilmour and Danielle Gilmour and two great grandchildren: Macklin Gilmour and Maverick Gilmour. She was loved and will be missed by her son-in-law, John Gilmour, two sisters-in-law: Sister Euphemia O’Connor and Sister Kieran O’Connor, and four nieces and nephews: Tricia Chiariello, Mary McDonald, John McDonald and Bob McDonald.

Marcy’s greatest joy revolved around her faith, family and friends. She was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pacifica where she taught Sunday School, volunteered for the Lutheran Braille Workers and was a member of the choir. She found abounding love and comfort through her steadfast faith in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior.

Marcy was a sweet loving mother who always put her children’s happiness first. She faithfully took her children to Sunday School each week. Her favorite piece of advice was to “say your prayers and brush your teeth.”

Marcy had a quick wit, wonderful sense of humor and her friends adored her. She was a gracious hostess and always welcomed everyone to her home for fun filled gatherings often lasting until the wee hours of the morning. Anyone who came into her home was welcomed like family. She was an avid scrabble and domino player.

Marcy lived a long, happy and interesting life and will be remembered by family and friends as a kind, fun and caring person. In her final days, she remained joyful and enjoyed singing songs of praise to her Heavenly Father, in whose arms she now rests.

A funeral service will be held at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pacifica, CA on Saturday, November 19, at 2p.m., with a reception to follow. In remembrance of Marcy and in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Lutheran Braille Workers, 13471 California St., Yucaipa, CA 92399.

I loved your mom, from the first time we spoke she had me laughing with her stories. I use to enjoy listening in to the conversations Kim would have with her while we were driving on some of our road trips. Though I never got to meet her in person I did feel very welcomed and loved by her. I going to miss teasing her. But now she is up in heaven with Aunt Wilma and Jerry. Enjoy eternity Mrs. O’Connor. We will miss you.
