Ray Lamberson (Little) Looze

Ray Lamberson Looze passed away on August 16, 2018 after a diagnosis of cancer. He was born with the surname of Little, August 20, 1936 in Honolulu, HI to Virginia Rae Lamberson of Oakpark, IL and Captain Rex Beach Little of Center, KS. He was the grandson of Ray Guernsey Lamberson of Lyons, KS (one of the founders of World Book Encyclopedia) and Myrtle Irene Whiteker of Topeka, KS. Ray was blessed to grow up in a full home. First with his brother Don and then joined by his brother in marriage John and finally by his twin half brothers Rick and Jack. Ray attended Wayland Academy for High School and earned his BA degree from Carleton College. He served in the Navy for four years, two of which were at NAF Sigonella, Sicily and two more at NAS Norfolk, VA. He counted those years among his fondest memories. He met Helene in San Diego after the Navy and they were married in Pasadena. They made their home in the Midwest near Ray’s family and eventually in Belmont, CA where they lived for 47 years. Ray worked for Detroit Diesel Allison a division on General Motors for 36 years and remained a GM faithful. He and Helene lived their final years at Sterling Court in San Mateo. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years Helene Vivian Johnson (daughter of Ragner Guno Johnson and Elizabeth Hamilton Johnstone) who died on August 12, 2015. Helene was a Professor of History and taught at Chabot College in Hayward for 30 years. Ray is survived by children; Lane (Scott) Poms of San Mateo, Ray (Kandis) Looze Jr. of Bloomington, IN, and Elizabeth “Tish” (Andy) Walters of Penryn, CA and grandchildren Max, Alex, and Ross Poms and Bryce and Mackenzie Looze. His brothers also survive him; Don (Kaaren) Little of Havasu City, AZ, John (Donna) of Boise, ID, Rick (Kara) of Baraboo, WI and Jack (Judy) Looze of Englewood, CO. He is further survived by Helene’s brother Drs. Nils (Sue) Johnson of Casper, WY, niece Dr. Sonia (Mike) Johnson of Glendale, CA., nephews Matt and Jordan Looze, niece Casey Looze and great nephew Mikko Johnson. He was unfortunately preceded in death on August 29, 2017 by his nephew Dr. Niles Ragner Johnson, the father of his great nephew Aysa and great neice Lilu. Ray and Helene will be greatly missed by their family and friends. They rejoice in the fact that they are together and will never be separated again. Ray and his family are most especially gratefully to the Kaiser Permanente Hospice individuals and would like to thank their administration for assembling such a wonderfully merciful team.
